Community Thanksgiving Meal

On November 23rd at 12pm,
Gray UMC will host our annual
“Reba Rowland Community Thanksgiving Meal”.   
 
This free meal is open to the whole community.  Everyone is welcome.  We will provide the Turkey, Ham and fixings.  Bring a side dish if you like.  Please let us know that you are coming by calling the church office at 477-3792.
 
Do you know someone who might be spending Thanksgiving alone?  Invite them to share Thanksgiving with the community.

Are you a Christian? Why?

Has anyone ever asked you that question? The first time I ever had this question put to me was when I was in seminary in the early 1980’s. I was working a part time job at a children’s shoe store called, Jeff’s Stride Rite, in Fayette Mall. The job helped to pay the bills. I worked at the store with several students from a nearby university. One night, when it was a really slow night at the store, the university student I was working with that night asked me why I was a Christian.
I confess that the question caught me off guard. I know it really shouldn’t have, but it did.

Saying “No!” to a Culture of Violence

     26 dead in church shooting:
that was the headline in the Johnson City Press on Monday, Nov. 6. Think about it … over the past number of years we’ve had shootings take place in high schools … elementary and middle schools … in malls where people shop … at Walmart … in movie theatres … at outdoor concerts … in workplaces … and in churches, just to name a few places. It seems there isn’t an institution left that is completely safe from this insanity.

Here at Gray UMC, we support many local and worldwide mission projects, and are involved in several outreach projects at any given time.  below are a few highlights.

Appalachian Fair

Community Fest is a way for Gray UMC to show the love of Christ to the Community of Gray through Fun, Fellowship and Worship.

Hope to Walk brings hope and a future to amputee patients in developing nations by designing low-cost prosthetics and training local providers to manufacture and deliver them.
