ANNOUNCEMENTS -Sunday, May 04       

 

Our Sermon series continues this week as we study the text of I Corinthians.  We are taking an in depth look at Paul’s guidance to the Church in Corinth. The sermon text for today is I Corinthians 2:1-16.  Next week’s sermon text will be I Corinthians 3:1-9.

 

THE POWER OF PRAYER: Why pray?  Is it acceptable to repeatedly pray for the same thing, or should we only ask once? How can I get my prayers answered by God? What is the power of prayer? What is intercessory prayer?

These are all great Questions and we will try to answer these and more in our 4 week study on PRAYER that begins this evening at 6:00PM. We would love to have you join us. Contact Rodney Russell at 477-7445 with any questions or for additional information.

FISH FRY: Make plans now to join us Friday, May 9 for a Fish Fry (5:00 – 7:30 p.m.).  This Fish Fry is sponsored by the Mission Team; all proceeds will benefit our church’s general budget.  Join us for a great meal and wonderful fellowship! 

 

Our next Host Week for Interfaith Hospitality Network will be May 11 – 18, 2008.  To sign up to help with meals, serve meals, or help out as an evening or overnight host, please call Ann or David Shipley at 477-3134, 943-0136, or 943-0125.  To help with transportation, please call Amy Blumberg, 477-0329 or 741-6569.  Everyone is invited and is needed to help with this wonderful ministry!

 

GUMY Lunch and Cake Auction: Mark your calendars now to join us immediately following the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday, May 18 for a lunch and cake auction!  All proceeds support our youth’s mission work.

 

Our choir will present an encore performance of the musical drama “The Risen Christ” on Sunday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m., in our sanctuary.  Please invite your family and friends to this wonderful presentation!

 

Pecans For Sale!  The UMW has Glazed Pecans, Halves, and Pieces for sale in the church office area.  They are $8.00 per bag.  Money goes to projects and missions for UMW.

BAYS MOUNTAIN PROGRAM: Everyone is invited on Sunday, June 22 to Bays Mountain Park for a special evening.  Meet at the church at 5:00 p.m. to travel to the park.  Bring a picnic dinner and drink for when we arrive.  At 7:00 p.m. our group will have a special program presented on wolves and they will have a “wolf howling”.  Free admission for everyone with the church group. 

 

GOT STUFF?  Donate it to the church YARD SALE!  Donations are being accepted Monday through Friday during office hours (9 – 2).  For questions, or if you have large items to donate, please call Dan Sutherland, 477-2190.

 

The eighth grade class from Gray Elementary School is going on a trip to Washington, DC this spring.  There are some students who need financial help to be able to attend.  If anyone would like to make a donation to help with their expenses, please see Emilee Little or Cathy Humphries.

The Health Resource Center at the Mall in Johnson City is offering the following classes this week: Beat The Tobacco Habit, Osteoporosis Update, and Growing and Using Culinary Herbs, among others.  You must register to attend!  For more information or to register for a class, call 952-3700.

 

The Health Resources personnel are offering a Safe Sitter class.  They are willing to come to the church for this class if there is enough interest.  You must be between 11 – 13 years of age, and have 5 or more available to take the class.  The cost is $30 for one day, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  If you are interested, please talk with Pat Herron, our Parish Nurse.
